Bilaspur to Become an Education Hub – Realizing the Dream of an Educational City Inspired by Nalanda
Raipur, June 2025/ Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the Chhattisgarh government is giving top priority to quality education and the holistic development of students. In this direction, a historic initiative is being undertaken to develop Bilaspur city into a modern educational hub.
As per the directives of the Chief Minister, the concept of “Bilaspur Educational City” has been formulated, with around 13 acres of land belonging to the Bilaspur Municipal Corporation proposed for the project.
Nalanda Complex and Digital Library
An advanced Nalanda Complex will be established in the Educational City, where 500 students will be able to access both physical and digital libraries simultaneously. This facility will provide a modern and inspiring academic environment for students.
Multi-storey Coaching Buildings
The project includes the construction of three multi-storey buildings comprising a total of 48 hall setups (each setup including 1 hall, 2 rooms, and 1 toilet). This arrangement will enable 4,800 students to attend coaching classes simultaneously.
Auditorium and Hostel Facility
A state-of-the-art auditorium with a seating capacity of 700 will be constructed to support the personality development of students. Additionally, hostel facilities will be created to accommodate around 1,000 outstation students.
Playground, Garden, and Parking
To promote sports and well-being, an astro turf sports ground and a beautiful garden will be developed within the Educational City. Moreover, multi-level parking will be built to ensure smooth traffic and convenience for visitors.
Project Cost and Implementation
Chief Minister Shri Sai informed that the estimated cost of this ambitious project is around ₹100 crore, and the implementation plan has been prepared by the Bilaspur Municipal Corporation. Construction will begin shortly, setting a new benchmark in the field of education in Chhattisgarh.
Bilaspur’s Growing Educational Identity
Since the formation of the state, Bilaspur has made remarkable progress in the field of education. It houses the headquarters of SECL, the DRM office of Indian Railways, one central university, two state universities, eight colleges, the Public Service Commission, Vyapam, and over 100 coaching institutions preparing students for prestigious exams like IITs and other national-level competitive tests. Over 50,000 students from across the state are currently studying in Bilaspur.
