सम्पूर्ण देश से तीर्थयात्री गंगासागर यात्रा पर आते हैं। इसी को आधार बना कर बंगाल सरकार गंगासागर मेला आयोजन के लिए प्रतिवर्ष केन्द्र से धन मांगती है। गंगासागर मेले की तुलना में कुम्भ मेला दस गुना बड़ा होता है। प्रयागराज कुम्भ में किसी यात्री के अस्वस्थ होते ही उल्लास से भर उठने वाले व्यक्ति-विशेष गंगासागर मेले की घोर अव्यवस्था पर कोई टिप्पणी नहीं करते।
